Rules and Regulations


Attendance

Unexcused absences without prior approval from the instructor or chief administrative officer are not permitted. After five unexcused absences, the student must meet with the chief administrative officer and will then be placed on probation for the standard 30 day period. Should the student have another unexcused absence while on probation, he/she may be terminated the chief administrative officer's discretion.

Tardiness

A student arriving after attendance has been taken is considered late and will be marked absent unless the instructor considers the reason for tardiness legitimate. All class time missed, in excess of fifteen minutes, must be made up by the student prior to graduating.

Conduct

Failure to meet with the following school requirements will mean termination.

  • Maintain grade level
  • Excessive absence
  • Use of illegal drugs or alcohol
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Animal Abuse
  • Theft of property
  • Failure to obey safety procedures.
Make-up Work

Students who have been absent for any reason are required to make up any missed classes before proceeding to the next course of study. A student may make up missed time by attending another class in session.

Probation

A student that does not adhere to the policies of the Florida Academy of Pet Grooming will be placed on probation. Probationary periods are a standard 30 days in length.

Grading

Grading is based on written tests, classroom performance, and practical application. The instructor uses bimonthly and monthly progress reports. The student can review their reports at appropriate times. The student's final grade is 75% practical application and 25% written tests and classroom performance. Any student who achieves a grade of 75% or above will receive a diploma upon graduation.

A 93-100 Excellent
B 87-92 Good
C 80-86 Average
D 75-79 Passing
F 0-74 Failing

Any Student that falls below 75% is placed on probation. The student will receive a notice in writing. Tutoring assistance is available upon request. If The student fails to bring his/her grade up to passing by program completion time, he/she will be allowed to continue at the hourly rate of the program. This will depend on availability of space in the desired class.

A student is not necessarily terminated for failure to learn the required skills. The chief administrative officer will use discretion based on the student's effort. A student that has not successfully completed the examinations at the end of each course is encouraged to attend the additional class sessions for extra practice. The student is permitted to retake the examinations within a reasonable time frame, as determined by the instructor. If the student fails to achieve a passing grade the second time, he/she is counseled by the chief administrative officer as the the advisability of continuing. If he/she decides to continue a diploma may not necessarily be granted.

Student records are permanently retained by the school and are available to students upon individual request. Student records will be provided to potential employers only after a written request has been made by the student

Dress Code

Students may dress casually, and must present a clean and professional appearance at all times. Open-toed shoes, halter tops, inappropriate T-shirts, etc. are not permitted. Smokes or uniforms must be worn during lab work.

Leave of Absence

A student may be granted a leave of absence for a reasonable amount of time as determined by the chief administrative officer. A request for a leave of absence must be in writing and the expected return date must be specified.

Job Placement Assistance

The Florida Academy of Pet Grooming does not guarantee employment to our graduates. However, we do provide the following:
  • Diploma
  • Transcription of Grades
  • Personal letter of recommendation
  • Job Postings
  • Consulting

Refund Policy

Should a student be terminated or cancel for any reason, all refunds will be made according to the following refund policy:

Cancellation must be made in person or by Certified Mail.

All money will be refunded if the applicant is not accepted by the school or if the student cancels within three business days of signing their enrollment agreement and making initial payment.

Cancellation after attendance has begun, but prior to 50% completion of the program will result in no refund.

The termination date for refund computation purposes will be the last date of actual attendance by the student, unless an earlier written notice is received.

Refunds will be made within 30 days of termination of receipt of cancellation notice.
